Tiffany Tyson’s story is deeply tied to Charleston’s West Side. She moved with her mother, Sandra Pope, to a family home on Grant Street in the early 1990s and has remained closely connected to the neighborhood ever since. Sandra, with her deep roots in social services and lifelong commitment to building strong, healthy communities, instilled in Tiffany the values of advocacy and service that continue to guide her leadership today.
After completing her studies, Tiffany returned to the West Side for good when her son Jared was born, grateful for the chance to raise him in a vibrant community he still cherishes deeply. Jared’s early experiences at Mary C. Snow Elementary and the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, where he joined the chess club and the Appalachian Children’s Chorus, helped shape him into the young man he is today: a senior at Marshall University majoring in Business and minoring in Digital Marketing.
Her father, Michael Wayne Tyson (Mike), was a beloved West Side resident, remembered for his warmth and ability to connect with everyone he met. Tiffany carries that same spirit of openness and community connection into her leadership approach today.
Professionally, Tiffany has built a career rooted in social services, higher education, and community outreach. She previously served as a Family Support Specialist with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (WV DHHR), as a Student Services Specialist Supervisor–TANF at BridgeValley Community and Technical College, and as Senior Transition Agent with Jobs & Hope WV. Most recently, she has delved into the nonprofit realm, leading rapid response and canvassing efforts in Charleston and beyond. Her passion for service has also carried her onto the national stage, where she joined the fight against looming Medicaid cuts in Washington, D.C.
Tiffany’s work reflects her dedication to serving individuals in recovery, those impacted by the justice system, and anyone in need of a voice and guidance. Over the years, she has become a trusted figure in advocacy, resource navigation, and nonprofit leadership across community and statewide organizations.
A proud alumna of Capital High School and West Virginia State University, Tiffany earned her Regents Bachelor of Arts before completing a master’s degree in education, specializing in Curriculum and Instruction/ESL, from the University of Phoenix. She currently serves as Secretary on the Board of Directors for Cabin Creek Health Systems (CCHS), which operates a comprehensive health center on Charleston’s West Side. She is also a member of the Charleston Branch of the NAACP and remains active in numerous coalitions and advisory boards across West Virginia.
At Westside Together, Tiffany is honored to serve the community that shaped the life of her son. Her leadership is rooted in the legacy of her mother’s commitment to strong, healthy communities, her father’s gift for connection, and her own vision for linking resources that empower neighbors and strengthen families for generations to come.
