West Side Community Disaster Resiliency Plan

This plan was developed with input from residents, partners, and emergency managers to make sure West Side families are ready when disaster strikes. Learn more about the plan itself and why we found it so important to prepare.
Learn More About Our Disaster Plan
In response to the 2023 gas and water outage, Westside Together, through its participation in the Accelerate WV Programās TA initiative, developed a community disaster plan to help residents be ready before, during, and after a disaster.
To build this plan, we spoke with community partners and emergency managers to make sure it strengthens, rather than duplicates or conflicts with, the City of Charlestonās official plans. Instead, this plan works alongside existing systems with a focus on the unique needs of the West Side.
A community survey, gave residents the chance to share their experiences and priorities. From that feedback, we identified key areas that became the framework for this plan.
